Designed by the Puget brothers, this architecturally significant building was built as an alms house in the first place. Lined with arcaded galleries, the central Baroque chapel stands right in the middle of a lovely courtyard. La Vieille Charité houses an archeological museum, examples of African and Asian art, plus a cafe and some good bookshops.
Two massive forts, Saint Jean and Saint Nicolas guard The Old Port or Vieux-Port. This is the city’s main harbor and marina of the city. Find the typical daily fish market and a number of eateries serving nice and fresh French seafood.
