La Vieille Charité

Designed by the Puget brothers, this architecturally significant building was built as an alms house in the first place. Lined with arcaded galleries, the central Baroque chapel stands right in the middle of a lovely courtyard. La Vieille Charité houses an archeological museum, examples of African and Asian art, plus a cafe and some good bookshops.

Vieux-Port

Two massive forts, Saint Jean and Saint Nicolas guard The Old Port or Vieux-Port. This is the city’s main harbor and marina of the city. Find the typical daily fish market and a number of eateries serving nice and fresh French seafood.

Abbey of Saint-Victor

This Abbey is rich with history and tradition, and it features one of Europe’s oldest places of Christian worship. Visit its crypt and catacombs dating back to the 5th century, these occupy the site of a Hellenic burial ground, which was then used for Christian martyrs.
